Yes, lots of fun.

Are reservations need

When is the strawberry room open

Check the website

Do you have to pay an admission fee if you are just going into the park to hike?

To use their parking lot yes. There was a $5 or $10 fee if you weren't going to the cave or had a camping reservation.

what are Saturday hours

Kartchner State Park facility is open at 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. the Discovery Center is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from December 19th through May 31st and June 1st through the 18th of December is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Are small dogs OK.

No, at least on cave tours and you are advised to not leave them in a car which could be fatal. I'm not sure about the visitor center. You should call ahead. At a different cave my wife and i booked the tours at different times so one of us could always stay with our dog.

Are children allowed

Yes, but make sure they are not afraid to be inside a dark cave - or you may need to leave the your midway with a crying child. We had this experience with our kids when they were younger. This time they were 9 and 6 and enjoyed thoroughly.

This is a byway worth taking! Breathtaking beauty above and below ground. It’s easy to see why it ranks high on the list. My moccasins from there lasted five years of hard wear. We will definitely be return customers!!! Five stars!

This is a very clean, well maintained park. We stayed 4 days. Cave tours reservations fill up early in the day. We didn't get a tour but there are very nice trails to explore. Park is close to Benson and Tombstone as well so it makes a good base for day trips.

Absolutely one of the most amazing places I've ever been too. I love how the staff and founders of the cavern are working hard yo preserve this cavern for year to come. My escort Alice was amazing. She attended myself and my service dog with so much kindness and professionalism. It was a pleasure to know her for such a brief time. The guides and all staff were friendly and very informative. I will pass on to my friends my exciting day at Kartchner Caverns

Awesome caves with great guides. Kudos to everyone who had the foresight to protect this place and make sure the tours are not destructiveBoth tours are good and wheelchair accessible. The big room tour offered better decorations typically but the rotunda and throne had a few really amazing ones

It's a nice natural experience, but make sure you call ahead before driving there. There's a lot that their website doesn't give you info on. You can't really go into the cave without paying for the tour (after entrance to the park) and when we got there we were told that kids under 10 were not permitted inside. They do brag about being one of the easiest wheel-chair accessible parks ever built however. I lived in the area and knew about the caves before the state park was built and found their history video a little over exaggerated but understand their need to make it sound the best to sell the idea for public affection.

This is a nice, modern park. Not only are the caverns amazing, but the staff, facilities, and educational resources are top notch. Furthermore, they do an exceptional job of shuttling a large number of people through on a timely schedule, while not making it feel crowded; the groups are Not on top of one another. The level of organization reminded me of Disney, or some other experienced operator of attractions. Kudos for all the great work done here.

We did the 12:45 Big Room tour today. Although I did not catch his name, our tour guide was amazing. He explained so much to us and took the time to answer questions that we had. He was very patient and polite while interacting with our five younger children and we could tell that he is as dedicated to preserving this beautiful cave as the two men who found it so many years ago. Love this place, appreciate all that has been done to keep it spectacular and we look forward to coming again in the future to enjoy its beauty.

Caverns are great! Hiking above ground is also great but Foothills trail is under rated. Shown as green (easy) but should be classified as intermediate since it has several technical sections and some steep sections.

It was ok, too many rules, too much being hurdled through and not enough exploring. Cant take pictures, cant touch anything, "exploration center," is kinda lame and cheesy. The grounds are nicely done and the Caverns ARE cool to see, but I might as well have watched a National Geographic show about it. You are led around and shown what they want to show you. Plus, you're on a timeline, which is kinda lame and pushes you past things you might be interested to the next talking point.

I love how the rangers strive to protect this cave system because it's a living cave. Really beautiful. If your expecting something as large as Carlsbad this is not the cave to see but it's well worth the trip. You can't bring anything into the cave including your phone and if your wearing a jacket they even instruct how to roll it up in a way that produces less lint.

Small cavern. After seeing Carlsbad, Mammoth and others we were somewhat disappointed here. Only thing interesting was the soda straw formations. It is considered a "live" cavern so if you're into preserving sites like this, it would be good for you.

It was a cool, cloudy March Sunday and perfect for a family outing to Kartchner Caverns State Park! We were surprised at how much warmer and more humid it is inside the cave. 71°F with 99% humidity! There are 2 different tours to choose from. We chose the Rotunda tour which was more accommodating to me (age 66) and my grandson (age 4.5). Our guide did a great job explaining the geologic history and discovery of the caverns. He also gave a nice tour inside. They are VERY careful with the preservation and care of this delicate ecosystem but gratefully aware of the patrons who pay to visit. No cameras nor phones nor drinks/food/gum allowed on the tour. There is a learning center, campground, and hummingbird migration garden as well as a gift shop and a burger cafe. We did not eat there. This state park is worth your time and entry fee.** Please LIKE my review, if it helps you!

So very cool! What a great state park! The museum and educational material is very and very interesting! Interactive and great for people of all ages! Our tour guide in the rotunda room/cavern was Jean! She was amazing! Very knowledgeable, great puns and interaction with everyone! She made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves to the fullest. I overheard some of the other tour guides and they did not seem as lively or energetic as Jean was. If you do not want a monotone or mundane tour and you are planning on booking one, definitely ask for Jean! She is a volunteer there and just wonderful. My whole family loved her! There is also great hiking, a hummingbird garden and lots of other great things to see and experience while you are there!

If you enjoy geology, this is an amazing place to visit. Unlike many other caves and caverns in the US, this one is largely untouched and unspoiled. The tours are on wheelchair accessible paths and the environment in the cave is as close as possible to its natural state so that the cave can continue to live and grow. See how a cave can develop over hundreds of thousands of years.

Kartchner Caverns is a great place The government has invested a lot of money in making it accessible for many people. it's pretty neat that you get a trolley ride up to the entrance go through a double set of doors that seal off the environment outside from the environment inside. Then you get sprayed down by a fine mist to bring the moisture level to a level that when you enter you don't take moisture out with you. We had a great tour of the first cavern and the music and light show was very relaxing. It was especially exciting reliving when the explorers first enter the cage and walk through the mud that was in the bottom of the cage and their tracks are still there today. Definitely a great place to go and investigate.

Obviously kids younger than myself (15 years of age) would probably find it not as amusing, but it was amazing. The lengths that people took to preserve this beautiful spectacle is worthy of so much respect. This is a fantastic place and i recommend coming here with or without company, because in the end you'll want to eventually come back.

The tour was very informative and very interactive. It starts at the discovery center where they explain how and when the caverns were discovered. If you're planning to visit those caverns, make sure you go between October and April. The caverns are closed during the rest of the year because it's a nursery roost for the bats. The caverns are actually warm and humid so no need for a jacket.

This is a wonderful park with a variety of activities, including lots of outdoor space, a really nice museum, and, of course, the caves. The cave tours seem to sell out quick as they try to limit the number of people going in, so best to place a reservation ahead of time. The caves themselves are gorgeous. While the big room requires participants to be 7 years old, the rotunda/throne room tour caters to all ages. The formations are as beautiful and stunning as they are delicate, and the tour guides are very knowledgeable and entertaining. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

This place is great. We stayed here in our Motorhome. You park in your space and the camp host comes by later to check you in. The sites are clean and spacious. The cave tour is really cool but make sure you reserve it on line before you get there. They limit the amount of people on each tour. They recommend showing up 30 min before your tour but that wasn’t necessary. You check in, get your tickets and then meet outside at your tour time. They don’t let you bring food, water or phones with you. They don’t search you but FYI.

Ranger Ben was outstanding in his leading the 9:15 am morning tour yesterday! His knowledge and conveyance of such was quite impressive, and his wit and personable style made the tour exceptional. Well done, Ben!Additionally, I inquired about the "photographer tour" and its lofty price, and it was something on which even he agreed with me. I would have loved to be able to shoot some photos of the caverns, but the price of that tour was way too much for the average person to afford. Maybe it will be adjusted in the future.Otherwise, a great place to check out nature's ever-amazing creations for a few hours of cave exploring!

The facilities here are very high quality: the visitor center is small but nice, and the group camping area surprised us with how good it was. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the occasional events (like star parties) add to the options of things to do. The main thing you're here to see, though, is the cave, and words simply can't capture how amazing that is. This raises the bar for a state park; I'd say this is a national-park-level development.

I traveled here from Sweden. And it was worth the trip! Visited the cave with my 10y old daughter who enjoyed it a lot. Breathtaking huge formations at the inner part of the cave (at least the inner parts that are open to public). But also many different examples of formations that are displayed excellently. Very well organized, easy to access for anybody, (including disabled throughout the cave i'd say) and an exciting story behind its discovery. You don't need to be interested in caves to appreciate this place. Well worth making a detour to.
